Fantasy & romantasy
Fantasy stories set in a world built around you.
Fantasy asks you to believe in a place before you believe in anyone in it. On StoryStepper, that place is made for one reader. A fae court with rules older than its lords, an academy on a tidal island, a village that owes a debt to the forest: each world is invented around the premise you give and the kind of person you say your lead is at heart. Nothing is borrowed from a series you already know.
The genre suits a story written for one reader because fantasy runs on consequence. A bargain struck in chapter two comes due in chapter nine. A name given away cannot be taken back. Every chapter ends with a choice, and the story remembers each one, so the world slowly takes the shape of your decisions: which oath you kept, which door you opened, whom you trusted at court.
A new chapter arrives every morning, the way a serial should. Across up to twenty-one episodes in three seasons, the magic deepens, the politics tighten and, if you want it, the romance burns slowly toward something it cannot undo. You read it privately. No one else will ever walk in your world.

The Name You Owe
The lot had been cut from the ash on the village green, as it was every seventh winter, and when the reeve turned it to the lantern it said Tam. Maren Quill watched her brother read his own name on a strip of pale wood and understood, with the calm that comes just before grief, that she had already decided.

The sea had to let you in before the academy would. At Saltglass that was not a figure of speech: the causeway surfaced for two hours at the ebb, and if you were still on it when the tide turned, the water decided what you were worth.

Romantasy
Love and high stakes carry equal weight. Choose tender longing or forbidden desire as the central tension and a love story drives the plot, with the world’s dangers pressing on every step toward it.
Fae courts and court intrigue
Glittering courts where every courtesy is a trap and every favour has a price. Your choices decide whom you bargain with, what you owe, and which secrets you trade to stay standing.
Enemies to lovers
A rival sworn to the other side, a warden who took something from you. The slow turn from hostility to something harder to name follows the choices you make each time you face them.
The chosen one
A prophecy, a sign, a power no one expected. The story can let your lead embrace the role, question it, or learn the prophecy was never about them, depending on what you choose when it arrives.
Magic academy
Trials, rivals, forbidden archives and teachers with their own agendas. Your lead’s temperament and your choices decide whether they climb the ranks or break the rules.
Found family
A band of misfits who become each other’s home. Who joins, who betrays and who is still by the fire at the end are shaped by the loyalties you choose.
How your fantasy takes shape
Choose Fantasy, then set the terms
Before chapter one you pick Fantasy, add a premise in a few lines if you have one, and decide who your lead is at heart and what the central tension is: forbidden desire, power and betrayal, tender longing or hidden truths.
A choice at the end of every chapter
Each morning a new chapter arrives and ends at a decision: the bargain, the oath, the door. What you choose steers what is written next.
A world that keeps its promises
The story remembers every choice across up to twenty-one episodes. A lie told to a queen in season one can still matter in season three. Prefer it all at once? The Books plan writes a complete fantasy novel for you within the hour.
Questions readers ask
Can I read romantasy, or only fantasy?
Either. Your premise and the central tension you choose decide the balance: tender longing or forbidden desire puts the romance at the centre, while power and betrayal or hidden truths tilt the story toward intrigue and magic.
Is the romance explicit?
You set the hard lines before chapter one. You can rule out explicit sexual content, graphic violence or infidelity, and the story will not cross them. Tension and longing are part of the genre; where the line sits is yours to decide.
Can I start from my own idea for a world?
Yes. You can add an optional premise in a few lines, and the world is built from it. Every world is original, so it will not retell or borrow from an existing series.
Can I read a whole fantasy book at once?
Yes. On the Books plan you describe what you want to read and a complete book, written start to finish for you, arrives within the hour, two a month. Stories are $15.99 a month, and the first two chapters are free.
